Israel: Have attacked launching pads for rockets
Israel is being fired at from the Gaza Strip with approximately 20 rockets. In response, the army plans to attack launch sites for such weapons in the southern coastal area during the night. Residents of eastern neighborhoods in the city of Hanunis were asked to leave the affected area prior to the attack, the army stated.
Witness reports indicate that thousands of people have fled to so-called safe zones further west, which are already overcrowded. There were initially no reports of casualties. The previous day, Israel, according to its army, was hit by approximately 20 rockets from the Gaza Strip. Some were intercepted by the rocket defense system, while others landed in open areas. The army reported no injuries.
In areas near the border with the Gaza Strip, air raid sirens went off, and people were instructed to quickly make their way to bomb shelters. The Islamic Jihad organization claimed responsibility for launching the rockets. Along with the larger Islamic Hamas and other extremist groups from the Gaza Strip, the Islamic Jihad participated in the massacre in Israel on October 7, which left 1,200 people dead. This unprecedented attack triggered the Gaza War.
Israel: Hamas uses civilians as human shields
The army accused Hamas once again of systematically violating international law and using civilian infrastructure and the civilian population as human shields for their terrorist activities against Israel. The army frequently reports on rocket launch sites in residential areas, weapons caches in schools, and tunnels for fighters under hospitals.
In Shejaiya, a residential neighborhood in the eastern part of the Gaza Strip, in the center of the coastal region, and in Rafah, the last Hamas stronghold in the south, ground troops, supported by air power, are still in action.
