Israel doubts blackout in Gaza

The power supply in the Gaza Strip is extremely unstable. The Palestinian company Paltel is now reporting a total grid failure, blaming the ongoing attacks. An army spokesman contradicts this. A lack of electricity and internet has fatal consequences for the civilian population.

An Israeli army spokesman has denied another total breakdown of telecommunications services in the Gaza Strip. He himself had just seen live broadcasts of Palestinian propaganda people on TikTok, for example, army spokesman Jonathan Conricus told the US broadcaster CNN. The CNN journalist confronted him with the fact that the broadcaster had been unable to conduct a planned interview with the International Red Cross due to a "blackout". The networks in Gaza may not be perfect, but there is no blackout, the army spokesman contradicted.

The West Bank-based Palestinian company Paltel had reported to X on Monday that telecommunications services in the Gaza Strip were down again. "We regret to announce a complete interruption of communication services (landline, cell phone and internet) in the Gaza Strip". This was due to damage to core elements of the network caused by the attacks. The information could not initially be independently verified.

The Israeli army has activated an evacuation map that divides the Gaza Strip into hundreds of small zones to inform civilians about combat zones. However, critics complain that many people have neither electricity nor internet access to view the map. Many also do not know how to use it. Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians who had fled there from the north of the territory on Israel's orders are crowded into southern Gaza.

Since the beginning of the Gaza war on October 7, the communication networks in the Gaza Strip have failed several times. Connections to the outside world were only possible with satellite cell phones and sometimes from high buildings in the south of the Gaza Strip with Israeli SIM cards.

Renewed rocket alert on Israel's border

While Israel's army is stepping up its operations against the Islamist Hamas in the Gaza Strip, there has been another rocket alert on the Israeli side. The Israeli army reported that sirens were once again wailing on the border with the Gaza Strip. Israeli ground troops are currently advancing in the south of the Gaza Strip, but the weeks-long operation against Hamas in the north of the coastal area is not yet over. "We have not yet completely defeated them militarily in the north, but we have made good progress," said an army spokesman the previous day.

Following a massacre by Islamist Hamas terrorists in southern Israel that left more than 1,200 people dead, Israel initially began massively attacking targets in the Gaza Strip from the air. At the end of October, the army also launched a ground offensive in the north. In the meantime, the army has also expanded its operations in the south. According to Hamas, around 15,900 people have been killed so far. The figures cannot currently be independently verified, but are considered generally credible by the United Nations and diplomats.
