Israel breaks off negotiations on ceasefire

After the ceasefire expired, the fighting in the Gaza Strip flared up again. Meanwhile, efforts are underway in Qatar to achieve a renewed ceasefire. Now Israel ends the negotiations. The Mossad secret service delegation accuses Hamas of not having fulfilled its part of the agreement.

The Israeli government has complained about a blockade in the negotiations on a new ceasefire in the Middle East war and has ordered its negotiators back to Israel. The talks in Qatar are at an "impasse", explained the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The head of the Israeli secret service Mossad, David Barnea, had therefore withdrawn his negotiating team from Doha on the instructions of the Prime Minister.

According to an insider, a delegation from the Israeli secret service Mossad negotiated a further ceasefire with Qatari negotiators. The talks in Doha also dealt with the release of further hostages, who were not only - as previously - women and children.

"The terrorist organization Hamas has not kept to its part of the agreement," the statement continued. Specifically, it is about the release of all children and women abducted in the Gaza Strip. Israel suspects that 20 women and two children are still being held by Palestinian terrorists in the Gaza Strip. The Israeli government is also counting a woman and her two young sons, whom the Islamist Hamas claimed to have killed a few days ago. According to a military spokesman, however, their deaths have not been confirmed.

French President Emmanuel Macron had previously announced his intention to travel to Qatar to help negotiate a new ceasefire. Efforts for a ceasefire and the release of all hostages must be increased, Macron told the press at the World Climate Conference in Dubai. France was very concerned that the fighting had flared up again after the ceasefire expired on Friday morning.

Mutual recriminations

A seven-day ceasefire between Israel and the radical Islamic Hamas, which had been used for the release of Hamas hostages and aid deliveries for the civilian population in the Gaza Strip, expired on Friday morning. The Israeli army then continued its military operation against Hamas, while the radical Islamic Palestinian organization again fired rockets at Israel.

According to the Israeli army, it has attacked more than 400 targets in the Gaza Strip since the end of the ceasefire. Hamas fighters have been killed in the process. The military did not give a figure. According to the Hamas-led Ministry of Health, which cannot be independently verified, 240 people have been killed since the resumption of fighting in the Gaza Strip.

Israel and Hamas are blaming each other for the fact that the ceasefire has not been extended. According to the US, the United States, Egypt and Qatar are working to broker a renewed ceasefire.

Hamas commits atrocities against civilians

On October 7, hundreds of Hamas fighters invaded Israel and committed atrocities, mainly against civilians. According to Israeli reports, around 1200 people were killed in Israel and around 240 people were taken hostage.

In response, Israel shelled targets in the Gaza Strip from the air and on the ground on a massive scale for weeks. According to Hamas, which cannot be independently verified, more than 15,000 people have been killed in the Palestinian territory since then, including more than 6,000 children and young people.
