Nahost - Israel attacks Yemeni port city

One day after the deadly drone attack by the Huthi Militia on Tel Aviv, Israel's Military, according to its own account, reacted with a direct counterstrike in Yemen. "Israeli fighter jets attacked military targets of the Huthi Terror Regime in the Hudaydah Port," the Military shared on its Telegram Channel. This was a response "to hundreds of attacks of the past months on Israel," the Military stated. The Military does not provide information on casualties in such cases.

Hudaydah Port of significant importance

Huthi spokesperson Mohammed Abdel Salam spoke of an Israeli attack against "civil institutions" in Yemen. Targets were oil- and power-generating facilities. Nasruddin Amir, a spokesperson for the Huthi Media Bureau, said a fire had broken out at the important Hudaydah Port. Huthi-affiliated television Al-Masirah reported that several people had been killed.

Social media images showed a large fire at the port, with high flames and a dark smoke column in the sky. According to the Saudi-financed news channel Al-Arabiya, twelve Israeli aircraft were involved in the attack, including F-35 combat jets.

The Red Sea Port is of strategic importance. A civil war and a severe humanitarian crisis have been raging in Yemen for years, affecting approximately 80% of the population who are dependent on aid.
