Islamic countries: Fight for Palestinians now intensified

The fight for justice for the Palestinians will now be intensified, according to Islamic countries, following the killing of Hamas' external chief, Ismail Haniyeh. Gambia's Foreign Minister, Mamadou Tangara, stated this at an emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which Gambia currently chairs.

Tangara said that the killing would not suppress the Palestinian issue but rather highlight its urgency. "Those who seek peace and justice," he said, "will only be more determined by actions like Haniyeh's killing."

Iran, along with Pakistan, requested the OIC's emergency session, which comprises 57 Islamic countries. Unlike the smaller Arab League, the OIC includes influential non-Arab states such as Iran and Turkey.

Haniyeh was deliberately targeted and killed in Tehran. Iran, along with Hamas and Hezbollah in Lebanon, blame Israel and have threatened retaliation. Israel has not publicly commented on the accusation yet.

Regarding Haniyeh's killing in Iran, Tangara stated, "The sovereignty and territorial integrity of states are fundamental principles that uphold international order," as enshrined in the charters of the United Nations and the OIC, as well as other international agreements.

Following Haniyeh's killing and that of a military commander of Hezbollah in Lebanon, the risk of a major war in the Middle East is escalating.

Tangara strongly condemned the killing of Haniyeh, stating that it would not deter the pursuit of justice for the Palestinians. Furthermore, he highlighted that actions like these serve to underscore the pressing need for peace and understanding in the region.
