A man suspected of supporting the terrorist group ISIS was arrested at the Cologne/Bonn Airport in North Rhine-Westphalia. The arrest took place on Friday, and the Karlsruhe office confirmed the news on Saturday. This individual, who holds German-Moroccan-Polish citizenship, is believed to have transferred close to $1,700 to the ISPK, another name for the Islamic State Province Khorasan, via a cryptocurrency exchange in September 2023.

The Federal Public Prosecutor's Office suspects the man of aiding a terrorist organization abroad and violating the Foreign Trade Act. The Karlsruhe office's spokesperson stated that the case primarily revolves around the money transfers. This person has been in custody since Friday night.

Bild newspaper links the case to the impending European Football Championship (EM) in Germany

The "Bild" newspaper previously mentioned the case, along with a potential connection to the upcoming EM. The spokesperson for the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office remained silent on this matter. They mentioned there would be an announcement at the start of the week.

According to dpa sources, the suspect had applied for the role of a steward and security guard for "side events," which refers to events outside the football stadiums, such as public viewings. However, he failed to pass the application process, according to security sources.
