Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi expected in Moscow for talks with Vladimir Putin

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi is expected to hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Thursday. "I can confirm that there will be Russian-Iranian negotiations on December 7," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in Moscow on Tuesday in response to media reports about Raisi's upcoming visit. The two countries are currently expanding their economic and military cooperation against the backdrop of Western sanctions.

The Iranian news agency Irna reported that Raisi was traveling to Moscow at Putin's invitation. "Bilateral matters, including economic relations, as well as discussions on regional and international issues, especially the situation in Gaza, will be high on the agenda of the one-day trip," it said.

Putin last visited Iran in July last year, while Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov traveled to Tehran in October for talks with counterparts from the region.

Western states accuse Iran of supporting Russia in the conflict with Ukraine by supplying large quantities of drones and other weapons.
