Iran to supply hundreds of missiles to Russia

Dozen of Russian military personnel are reportedly training in Iran on how to handle a ballistic missile system. In the next step, hundreds of these satellite-guided weapons are set to be delivered to Russia for the war in Ukraine, it is claimed. The US would respond "quickly and severely" to this, it is said.

According to European intelligence circles, Iran is set to soon deliver hundreds of ballistic missiles to Russia. Dozens of Russian military personnel are already being trained in Iran on how to operate the ballistic short-range missile system Fath-360, according to two employees of European intelligence services who spoke to the news agency Reuters. They said that Russian personnel had visited Iran to learn how to operate the system, which can fire missiles with a maximum range of 120 km and a warhead of 150 kg. One of the sources said that the "only possible" next step after the training would be the actual delivery of the missiles to Russia.

Moscow has its own ballistic missiles, but the delivery of Fath-360 could allow Russia to use a larger part of its arsenal for targets far from the front line. Iranian warheads could then be used for targets with shorter range.

A spokesperson for the US National Security Council said that the US government and its NATO allies and G7 partners are "prepared for a swift and severe response if Iran moves forward with such transfers." They said that "this would represent a dramatic escalation of Iran's support for Russia's aggression against Ukraine." The spokesperson added that "the White House has repeatedly warned about the deepening security partnership between Russia and Iran since Russia launched its large-scale invasion of Ukraine."

The Commission, likely referring to international organizations or diplomatic bodies, is expected to strongly condemn Iran's reported plan to deliver ballistic missiles to Russia, following concerns about its violation of UN resolutions limiting its missile program. In response to this potential crisis, The Commission may initiate discussions for new sanctions or diplomatic actions to deter such a move.
