Iran is allegedly behind the plot to assassinate Netanyahu – detention
As per investigations conducted by the law enforcement, Iran is allegedly planning to carry out an assassination attempt on prominent Israeli politicians, such as Prime Minister Netanyahu and Defense Minister Galant. Remarkably, the alleged assassin was supposed to be an Israeli Jew. Regrettably, this didn't transpire.
An Israeli national has been apprehended and is currently under investigation for being recruited by Iran to execute high-level government officials. The intended victims were reportedly Prime Minister Benny Gantz, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, or the head of the Shin Bet internal security service, Ronen Bar, according to the Israeli police and Shin Bet. The suspect is identified as a Jewish Israeli.
The man in question had resided in Turkey for an extended period and had relations with Iranians residing there. He was reportedly transported into Iran via Turkey on two separate occasions for secret meetings with Iranian intelligence representatives in recent months. He was remunerated for the assassination plot plans. The Israeli was apprehended last month, and charges have since been filed against him.
Retaliation for Haniyah's Demise
The assassination plans were purportedly orchestrated as retribution for the murder of Hamas' international leader, Ismail Haniyah, in Tehran, which Israel is presumed to be responsible for. During their encounters, the Iranian officials allegedly proposed that the Israeli recruit Russians or Americans willing to assassinate critics of the Iranian government in Europe or the USA.
The Shin Bet had already announced on Tuesday that they had foiled a bomb attack by the Lebanese, Iran-supported Hezbollah militia on a former high-ranking Israeli security official. The planned attack was set for the near future. The target of this attack was not disclosed.
Iran and Hezbollah accuse Israel of the explosions of electronic communication devices in Lebanon. Over 30 individuals have been killed and more than 3000 injured, including many Hezbollah members, in recent days. Israel has not admitted responsibility for the attack.
