Iran denies attack plans on Trump
After the attack on Donald Trump at a campaign event, indications have emerged that Iran also had a plot against the former President. The Secret Service apparently strengthened its protection in response to corresponding threats. Now Tehran is reacting to the allegations.
Iran denies reports of threats against the former Republican President Donald Trump. "These are baseless and politically motivated allegations," said a spokesperson for the Iranian UN Mission in New York. For Iran, Trump is a war criminal who gave the order to kill Iranian General Qasem Soleimani in 2020. "Trump must be held accountable and punished for this, but Iran has decided to take the legal route," the spokesperson for the Mehr News Agency added.
According to reports from consistent media outlets, the Secret Service strengthened its security measures for Trump in the past weeks. This was due to threats from Iran, CNN and MSNBC reported. The media referred to anonymous sources familiar with the matter. The American security agencies were said to have received information about a plot and therefore increased protection, it was reported.
Despite the additional measures, the attempted attack on Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania could not be prevented. The shield reportedly had no connection to foreign accomplices according to the latest investigation by Adrienne Watson, spokesperson for the National Security Council.
Warnings before outdoor rally?
The agency did not want to confirm or deny reports of an imminent threat from Iran. Watson only explained that the Secret Service receives regular new information about threats and reacts to them. According to CNN, the Secret Service had repeatedly warned Trump's campaign team to cancel outdoor rallies where risks were harder to control. These warnings were however of a more general nature.
Qasem Soleimani, the former commander of the so-called Al-Quds Brigades, was killed by a targeted US drone attack in Bagdad on Trump's order in 2020.
- The Iranian UN Mission's spokesperson, in response to allegations of threats against former President Trump, condemned the claims as baseless and politically motivated, citing Trump's role in the assassination of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani.
- Amidst these allegations, multiple reliable media sources reported that the Secret Service had beefed up its security measures for Trump due to threats from Iran.
- Despite these enhanced security measures, an assault on Trump during a rally in Pennsylvania still occurred, with the Secret Service's spokesperson stating that the shield had no foreign accomplices.
