Iran and Cuba want to support each other in resisting US sanctions

Iran and Cuba want to support each other in their defense against the sanctions imposed on both countries by the USA. "What can neutralize the sanctions is the exchange of capacities between the two countries," said Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi during a visit to Tehran by Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel.

Both presidents signed seven agreements on cooperation in the fields of science and technology, health, medicine, agriculture, energy, mining and communications. There is a "serious determination" on the part of both countries to further develop their relations, said Raisi.

What they have in common is that they "oppose the system of domination" - the Iranian president was referring to US policy. Díaz-Canel thanked Iran for supporting Cuba in its "fight against the cruel embargo" imposed by the USA.

Cuba has been subject to an extensive US embargo since 1962. It was imposed three years after the Cuban revolution. The country is currently suffering from its worst economic crisis since aid from the former Soviet Union to Cuba was withdrawn in the early 1990s. Iran is also subject to massive US sanctions, which were imposed in part due to Iran's nuclear program.

The collaboration between Iran and Cuba in resisting US sanctions is strengthened by their exchange of capacities in various fields. Iran's President Ebrahim Raisi mentioned this during Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel's visit, highlighting the potential of this exchange in neutralizing the impact of sanctions. Cuba, like Iran, has been suffering under extensive US sanctions, a situation exacerbated by its ongoing economic crisis, with the US embargo being a significant factor.
