Attack on ex-partner - Investigator about the accused: "He was grinning"
Faced with the brutal attack on the mother of his children, a man, who is on trial, smiled according to a police officer's statements. Otherwise, the 39-year-old had spoken little during his interrogation, except for: "It was a mistake to raise my hand or my fist against my wife", the Chief Commissioner testified at the beginning of the trial before the Aschaffenburg Regional Court.
The Somalian stands accused, among other things, of attempted murder. He is alleged, according to the indictment, to have attacked his ex-wife, 36, in the middle of Aschaffenburg with a kitchen knife in late January - possibly in revenge for the separation. The victim was "severely mutilated," the investigator said. "Her face was slashed, gaping wounds."
More than a dozen witnesses observed the attack. A man tried to intervene in the attack on the 36-year-old. Other witnesses followed the perpetrator later. "That was not ordinary," the officer described the situation at the time. "It was scenes that reminded us of the Würzburg rampage."
On June 25, 2021, a psychologically ill Somalian in the Würzburg city center attacked unknown people with a kitchen knife. Three women died, nine people were injured.
Unprovoked attack
According to the results of the investigation, there was no dispute between the former partners immediately before the attack in Aschaffenburg, the police officer said. They have three children together, the woman has three more from previous relationships. "She was married to the accused according to Muslim law." The 36-year-old had separated from the man about a year and a half before the incident due to his alcohol and gambling addiction, which he did not want to accept.
The suspect admitted to the attack at the start of the trial but would not explain his motive.
- Despite being charged with attempted murder and alleged to have attacked his ex-wife in a brutal manner, the Somalian man from Bavaria, Germany, merely smiled during his court process.
- The criminal proceedings against the man, whose children share a mother with his victim, are currently ongoing at the Aschaffenburg Regional Court.
- The German-Somalian woman, who separated from her husband due to his alcohol and gambling addiction, was severely injured in the attack, with gaping wounds on her face.
- The alleged attack on the mother, which took place in the center of Aschaffenburg, was reminiscent of the unprovoked attack that occurred in Würzburg, where a psychologically ill Somalian attacked several people with a kitchen knife, resulting in fatalities and injuries.
- The UNDERFRONT news agency reported on the ongoing trial, emphasizing the impact the attack had on the children and the complex nature of the relationship between the mother and the accused.
