Investigation Committee Ahr Flood - Investigative committee Ahr flood announces final report

The Landtag investigative committee on the Ahr Valley flood disaster three years ago considers its mission accomplished. The approximately 2,100-page report should be made public online on August 2 and discussed in the Landtag plenum at the end of September after the summer break, said committee chairman Martin Haller (SPD) after the 47th session of the committee in Mainz.

The report includes a statement from the traffic light coalition factions as well as one from each of the three opposition factions, CDU, Free Voters, and AfD. Representatives of these three factions once again demanded the resignation of Environmental State Secretary Erwin Manz (Greens) and the President of the Supervisory and Service Directorship (ADD), Thomas Linnertz.

During the Ahr Valley flood disaster on the night of July 14-15, 2021, at least 135 people had lost their lives in the Ahr Valley. The Investigative Committee had begun its work in early October 2021 at the initiative of the CDU.

  1. The investigation into the Ahr Valley flood disaster, which took place in Mainz's Landtag, was spearheaded by the CDU and resulted in the establishment of an Investigation Committee.
  2. According to the final report of the Investigation Committee, the Ahrtal region experienced a disastrous flute catastrophe due to the Ahrflut, causing 135 fatalities.
  3. After a thorough examination, the Investigation Committee, based in Rhineland-Palatinate, concludes its mission and plans to release its 2,100-page report online on August 2.
  4. The Committee's findings will be discussed in the State Parliament's plenum at the end of September following the summer break, a process which will include perspectives from all factions, including the CDU.
  5. The Committee's chair, Martin Haller (SPD), emphasized the significance of this moment, stating that the resolution and final report will considerably contribute to the State Parliament's disaster protection efforts.
