Investigation against CDU politician from Saxony-Anhalt

The CDU state legislator Detlef Gürth is under investigation by the Halle prosecutor's office for incitement to hatred due to a comment he posted on X following the stabbing in Wolmirstedt in June.

The Halle prosecutor's office has initiated investigations against CDU state legislator Detlef Gürth on suspicion of incitement to hatred. A spokesperson for the Halle prosecutor's office stated, "There is an initial suspicion, but the presumption of innocence still applies."

Background is a post on the X account of the CDU politician and former president of the Saxony-Anhalt state parliament. After a stabbing attack by an Afghan, it could be read there: "This pack has to get out of Germany." The post was later deleted. The CDU legislator declined to comment on the matter when asked about it today.

Already after the incident became known, a preliminary investigation was initiated according to official business, the Halle prosecutor's office being responsible for combating hate crimes on the internet in Saxony-Anhalt. During the opening ceremony of the European Football Championship, a stabbing occurred in Wolmirstedt near Magdeburg. Shortly thereafter, the post appeared.

A 27-year-old Afghan is said to have first stabbed a compatriot in Wolmirstedt and then injured three other people in a nearby garden plot. The 27-year-old was shot and killed by police when he also attacked them, according to later police information. The interior political spokesperson of the Left in the state parliament, Henriette Quade, filed a complaint after the CDU politician's remarks.
