In a break-in at Rome, a burglar's affection for literature turned out to be his undoing: The 38-year-old Italian invader, after unlawfully infiltrating an apartment, stumbled upon a book that captured his attention so completely that he neglected to notice the police showing up. It seemed he thought the whole residence would be vacant during the holiday season, as stated by the broadcasting network Rai. However, a different occupant tipped off the authorities. Upon their arrival, the police encountered the burglar relaxing in the bedroom, clutching the book, with a bag of high-end garments nearby, likely intended for theft.

The book under scrutiny is a 2021 release about Greek mythology by Italian writer Giovanni Nucci, titled "The Gods at Six. The Iliad at Cocktail Hour".

The 54-year-old author found the incident hysterical. "This is a totally absurd tale - yet also brimming with human qualities," Nucci shared with the daily newspaper "Il Messaggero". The book hasn't hit shelves in Germany yet.

The burglar's obsession with the Greek mythology-focused book led to his arrest, becoming an unexpected chapter in the story of crime. Despite the unexpected turn of events, the author viewed the incident as an amusing anecdote, highlighting the human dimension in the absurd.
