International police organization, Interpol, reported 219 arrests across numerous nations in a recent operation.
In a global crackdown on human trafficking, as per international police agency Interpol, a staggering 219 suspects were taken into custody across 39 nations. During these investigations, a startling 1374 possible victims were identified, including 153 minors, Interpol revealed. This operation, spanning from June 3 to June 9, was reportedly spearheaded by Austria and orchestrated by Romania, EU police agency Europol, EU border and coast guard agency Frontex, and Interpol.
A duo was apprehended in Hungary, charged with coercing their own six children into sexual exploitation and begging on the streets.
A suspect was caught in Laos, accused of enticing 14 Vietnamese individuals with the temptation of well-paying jobs, only to force them into fraudulent online activities for up to 14 hours a day.
Interpol also reported that 276 new investigations commenced and 362 suspects were identified during the raids.
Frontex officer Lars Gerdes acknowledged that uncovering human trafficking crimes can be "exceptionally challenging," with many cases remaining hidden. He emphasized that international collaboration is "essential" in combating this issue effectively.
