Mental Arsonists - Interior Minister Faeser bans right-wing "Compact"-Magazine

Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser (SPD) has banned the "Compact"-Magazine, which was classified as extremist by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, and the Conspect Film GmbH. According to her ministry, law enforcement agencies have been searching the premises of the organization and the homes of leading figures, the management, and shareholders in Brandenburg, Hesse, Saxony, and Saxony-Anhalt since early morning hours.

House in Falkensee, Brandenburg, searched

The goal of the raid was the seizure of assets and evidence, according to a statement. Among other things, a house in the Brandenburg town of Falkensee was searched, whose address is listed in the magazine's imprint.

Faeser justifies the ban by stating that "Compact" is a "central mouthpiece of the far-right scene." She further stated, "This magazine incites hatred in an unacceptable way against Jews and Jews, people with a migration background, and our parliamentary democracy." The ban shows, "we also go after the intellectual arsonists who fan the flames of hate and violence against refugees and migrants and want to overthrow our democratic state."

"Compact": "inhumane positions"

As early as 2022, the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution ruled that the magazine, which is led by editor-in-chief Jürgen Elsässer, propagates "democracy-hostile and inhumane positions in society."

In the online shop of "Compact," one can purchase, among other things, a coin with the likeness of Thuringia AfD state chairman Björn Höcke. Elsässer incites his supporters at events with chants like "Ami go home" and "Friendship with Russia."

"Actively promoting the overthrow of political order"

For the ban of an organization, it is not enough if it holds a constitutionally hostile stance. An additional requirement is that it does so in an aggressive and combative manner. The Federal Ministry of the Interior states in its statement that it is to be expected that readers and viewers of "Compact" media products are "stirred up and encouraged to actions against the constitutional order through the publications, which also actively promote the overthrow of the political order."

  1. Jürgen Elsässer, the editor-in-chief of the "Compact" magazine, which is based in Saxony-Anhalt, has been known to promote "inhumane positions" against individuals with migrant backgrounds and democracy.
  2. In addition to Saxony-Anhalt, law enforcement agencies have conducted raids in Brandenburg, Hesse, and several regions in Saxony, including Falkensee, where a house associated with the "Compact" magazine was searched.
  3. Nancy Faeser, the Federal Minister of the Interior, classified the "Compact" magazine as a central platform for right-wing extremism, stating that it incites hatred against Jews, people with a migration background, and democratic institutions.
  4. The ban on the "Compact" magazine and the Conspect Film GmbH by Faeser signifies a decisive action against right-wing extremism, as the magazine is deemed to be actively promoting the overthrow of the democratic political order in Germany.
