Gaza War - Injured minors from the Gaza War come to Spain
Overall, 16 severely ill minors from the GazStrip are set to be treated in Spanish hospitals. A Lazarus machine of type A400M from the German Air Force has already been flown to the Egyptian capital Cairo to bring the children and adolescents, as well as 27 family members, to Madrid, the Defense Ministry announced in response to an inquiry. These patients are reportedly suffering from severe war injuries, as well as a cancer patient and a patient with a serious heart condition. The 16 children and adolescents were allegedly evacuated from the GazStrip to Egypt earlier.
The need for medical aid for civilians in the GazStrip, especially for children and adolescents, is enormous. According to the WHO chief in Geneva, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, some 5,000 injured children from the GazStrip have been evacuated so far. Since early May, the Rafah crossing to Egypt has been closed due to fighting. Therefore, some 10,000 more injured minors are still waiting to leave the GazStrip for medical treatment abroad. Few have managed to do so since then. About 20 cancer-stricken children were able to leave the GazStrip for Egypt at the end of June through another border crossing.
According to the health authority controlled by Hamas in the GazStrip, some 39,000 people have been killed and nearly 90,000 injured in the Strip since the war began on October 7, 2020. The healthcare system in the area has been largely destroyed by the war damage.
The cause of the Gaza War was the unprecedented massacre committed by terrorists from Hamas and other groups in Israel on October 7, 2020, resulting in over 1,200 deaths. Israel responded with massive air raids and a ground offensive. Facing the high number of civilian casualties and the catastrophic situation in the Gaza Strip, Israel is increasingly under international criticism.
