Initial fatality reported in Ukrainian assaults on Moscow's outskirts.
Giant Ukrainian drone attacks lead to the initial civilian fatality in Moscow's surrounding region during the ongoing conflict versus Russia. Moscow region's governor, Andrei Vorobyov, broke the news via Telegram messaging service, detailing that a 46-year-old woman passed away following a drone strike on a residential building in Ramenskoye, located south of the metropolis. Simultaneously, Germany, France, Britain, and the United States issued fresh sanctions against Iran due to its weapons provision to Russia.
Russia's Defense Ministry claimed to have thwarted 144 Ukrainian drones. Seventy-two were downed over the Bryansk region near the Ukrainian border, while twenty were brought down in the Moscow region, and fourteen were intercepted in Kursk's border zone, amongst other regions.
The airstrike close to Moscow prompted flight cancellations or delays at around four airports surrounding the Russian capital, such as major hubs like Domodedovo and Sheremetyevo, as reported by state media outlets.
Ukraine and Russia have been conducting overnight drone attacks against each other, yet Ukrainian drones seldom reach as far as the Moscow region. In response to the crime, the central Russian investigative body launched a criminal investigation. The Kremlin denounced the attack and vowed to escalate its offensive in Ukraine.
On the third day, the Russian Defense Ministry declared further territory gains in the eastern Ukrainian Donetsk region. Russian forces allegedly seized the city of Krasnogorovka and three neighboring hamlets. Prior to the conflict, Krasnogorovka, positioned around 20 kilometers from Russian-held Donetsk, had a population of roughly 16,000 and was traditionally recognized as a Ukrainian stronghold in the area.
Following the drone strike, a local resident, a 46-year-old man, also tragically passed away due to the aftermath of the attack. In the wake of these incidents, Moscow's authorities have called for increased vigilance and emergency services preparation.
