Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for dialogue during his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow to achieve peace. He told Putin that peace is of paramount importance for the future of our next generation, as a friend, Modi said in a Hindi speech on Tuesday while sitting next to Putin.

"War cannot solve problems," Modi added. "We must find a way to peace through dialogue." "When innocent children are murdered, when you see them die, it hurts the heart and this pain is unbearable," Modi further stated.

Modi and Kremlin chief Putin spoke during his visit to Moscow about Russia's offensive in Ukraine. As is usual among true friends, they sat together and discussed a range of topics, Modi said. He was "happy" that "we both were able to openly and in detail express our views on Ukraine."

Modi arrived in Moscow on Monday for his first visit since the beginning of Russia's offensive in Ukraine. Just a few hours prior, Moscow had again bombarded the neighboring country with massive rocket attacks, including hitting a children's hospital in Kiev. Over three dozen people were killed nationwide. The attacks were sharply condemned internationally. Russia is still by far the largest weapons supplier to India and supplies the country with cheap oil as well. The West is also eager to maintain good relations with India, seeing it as a counterweight to China's growing influence. At the same time, Western countries are urging the government in New Delhi to distance itself from Russia.

  1. During their discussion in Moscow, Modi emphasized the importance of the Head of government in driving the search for dialogue, as he and Putin aimed to pave a Path towards Peace.
  2. Modi, speaking as a Friend to Putin, stressed the necessity of diplomatic Modes to resolve conflicts, stating that War should never be the chosen solution.
  3. The Head of government of India, Modi, expressed his concern about the ongoing situation in Ukraine, stating that seeing innocent lives lost through violence in Moscow's offensive is unbearable and no means justifies such Acts of Aggression.
  4. Despite being one of India's major weapons suppliers and a provider of cheap oil, Russia's position on the Ukraine conflict has put it at odds with some Western nations, who are urging Modi's government to explore Alternative Modes of International Relations.
