India's Leader Modi Announces Ministerial Lineup
Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, unveiled his cabinet line-up for his third term this week. Notably, there were no modifications in the four key ministries. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar will carry on handling India's foreign policy, Amit Shah continues as the Interior Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman is appointed as the Finance Minister, and Rajnath Singh retains his position as the Defense Minister.
India's ruling Hindu nationalist party, the BJP, clinched a solid 240 seats in the recent parliamentary elections, barely falling short of absolute majority which stands at 272. Once again, Modi will be leading a coalition government with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). To form the government, he relied heavily on his regional partners.
Last Sunday, Modi, along with 71 ministers and state secretaries, tendered their resignations. Among them, 61 individuals belong to the BJP while the others are from other NDA parties. Nonetheless, it's noteworthy that only seven of them are women and none are representing the Muslim minority.
