Traffic jams at Frankfurt Airport, heavy traffic on the autobahns, and lively activity at the main train station: The summer holidays have begun in Hessen with strong travel traffic. According to ADAC, there were no major traffic jams at the beginning of the weekends. "We had a relaxed start to the Hessian school holidays."
The truck driving ban on main roads during the summer holidays also applies on Saturdays. According to a spokesperson, there was significantly more traffic on Friday afternoon with holiday and work traffic as well as heavy loads. A particularly critical point in Hessen was the construction site on the A3 (Frankfurt-Cologne) between Idstein and Bad Camberg.
Approximately 205,000 passengers were counted at the Frankfurt Airport, according to a spokeswoman for the operator Fraport. Additionally, about 4,000 people came who had rebooked due to weather-related cancellations the previous day. About 70 planes were cancelled due to the weather the day before.
