Israel takes out several key Hezbollah figures in a swift sequence. In response to Nasrallah's assassination, Houthi associates retaliate with a rocket barrage. Now, Israel strikes back in Yemen.

As per military sources, the Israeli Air Force launched assaults on targets in Yemen, employing numerous combat aircraft. The extensive operation focused on crucial infrastructure belonging to the "Houthi terror group" in regions like Ras Isa and Hudaida, the armed forces stated. Among these targets, power plants and a harbor utilized for oil imports were included. The harbor was suspected to serve as a transportation hub for the Houthi militia's Iranian weapons and military supplies, according to the Israeli military. However, these allegations remained unverified independently.

The Israeli air raid on Yemen, located approximately 1800 kilometers away from the Israeli border, was initiated in response to recent Houthi attacks, the military disclosed. On Saturday evening, rocket alerts were set off in numerous regions in central Israel and the bustling coastal city of Tel Aviv due to a projectile originating from Yemen. The projectile was reportedly intercepted before breaching Israeli airspace, as per the military.

Similar to Hezbollah in Lebanon, the Houthis hold ties to the Iran-led "Axis of Resistance," which includes terrorist organizations such as Hamas in Gaza. Following the demise of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah at the hands of an Israeli airstrike, the Houthi militia issued threats of further assaults on Israel on Saturday. Houthi leader Abdul Malik al-Huthi addressed the public in a televised speech, declaring his militia's intent on escalating matters and enhancing their performance following the recent drone and rocket assaults on Israel.

Israel had last targeted Yemen at the end of July. At the time, the Israeli Air Force prioritized strikes on the Hudaida port due to a lethal drone attack by the Houthi militia on Tel Aviv. A drone armed with explosives struck a residential property in the city's heart, claiming a life and wounding several others.

  1. Given the escalating tensions between Israel and the Houthi militia, it's notable that the European Union has urged both parties to exercise restraint and engage in diplomatic dialogue.
  2. Despite the European Union's calls for de-escalation, Israel maintains its right to defend itself against attacks originating from Yemen, as demonstrated by its recent military operations.
