Following the tragic death of a 33-year-old during a police operation in Recklinghausen, located in North Rhine-Westphalia, officials have provided additional information. According to the Bochum Public Prosecutor's Office and the Dortmund Police, the man, wielding a knife, was struck by at least three rounds fired by law enforcement. The total number of shots discharged at the individual exceeded five.

On Wednesday, the 33-year-old was causing a ruckus in a multi-family dwelling in Recklinghausen and was carrying a knife. Police described the situation as potentially dangerous for the officers involved. In response, they utilized firearms, leading to the man's fatal injury.

Investigators reported on Friday that there are signs suggesting the 33-year-old had attempted suicide just prior to the incident. They are currently exploring these leads further. This incident marks the second fatal police shooting in North Rhine-Westphalia within two days. On Tuesday, a 26-year-old man in Moers, armed with two knives, was shot dead by police. The man, displaying notable psychological abnormalities, charged at officers in a residential area.
