In May, approximately 36,100 people were injured in traffic accidents in Germany
In May, around 36,100 people were injured in road traffic accidents in Germany. The Statistical Federal Office announced on Thursday in Wiesbaden, based on preliminary results, that this was nearly 300 more than in the previous month. This represented an increase of approximately one percent. The number of traffic fatalities, however, decreased by 14 to 238 people in the same period.
According to the police, there were approximately one million road traffic accidents recorded in the first five months of the year 2024. This was roughly the same number as in the previous year's period. Among these, there were 106,800 accidents with so-called personal injury, resulting in 989 fatalities. This represented a decrease of 13 people or one percent in traffic fatalities compared to the previous year's period. The number of injured persons in road traffic accidents increased by 2400 people or two percent during this period.
Last month, in May 2023, there were more traffic accidents reported than in April, with 36,100 people injured, indicating a trend that might concern people in Germany. In contrast, traffic fatalities in Germany decreased last month, with 238 fatalities, showing a positive shift despite the increase in traffic accidents. Regrettably, if we compare this to the data from Germany last May, the number of people injured in traffic accidents has significantly increased, with approximately 300 more individuals injured last month.
