- In Majorca, Germans apprehended for physically assaulting taxi operators.
Four German vacationers were apprehended on the Spanish island of Mallorca by the local authorities, as claimed for supposedly assaulting a taxi driver. The victim disclosed to the "Mallorca Zeitung" that these Germans asserted they were German law enforcement officers and even presented their IDs.
The men boarded the taxi on Monday evening on the well-known "Schinkenstraße," the primary party street in Ballermann, with the intention of heading to their hotel in the central area of the island, the "Mallorca Magazin" reported.
Their quarrel at the destination allegedly turned violent, according to the police. One of the Germans misplaced his phone and accused the taxi driver of theft. Reports indicated that the tourists attacked the driver.
The 71-year-old man was transported to the hospital with numerous bone fractures. "I believed they would murder me," he told the "Mallorca Zeitung." "When I requested the police, they merely said they were the police," the newspaper cited the man.
Alleged Bribery Incident
Upon the police's arrival at the hotel, one of the Germans reportedly attempted to bribe the taxi driver and the police with money to abandon the charges. Due to this alleged bribery attempt, one of the Germans was first detained, then followed by his companions. Police have launched an investigation.
According to information from the victim's family, the Germans appeared before a judge who did not order their detention. The men have since departed the island. There was no official confirmation of this initially.
Despite departing the island, the incident involving the German tourists in Spain, specifically on Mallorca, has garnered significant attention. The men, who had a disputed encounter with a taxi driver, were accused of assault and bribery attempts by the authorities.
