In April, producer prices for agricultural items increased.
Farmers received higher prices for their products in April after a series of declines, reports the Federal Statistical Office. Compared to the previous year, producer prices in April saw a 0.4% rise. Previously, the prices dropped 2.2% in March, decreased 5.8% in February, and fell 7.4% in January.
The statisticians in Wiesbaden shared on Thursday that there was a 0.7% increase in prices month-to-month in April. Interestingly, prices for plant-based products soared 4.6% higher year over year, whereas those for animals and animal products plummeted 2.4% lower.
Some noteworthy changes were seen in April for specific crops like potatoes, up 53.9%, and fruits, with producer prices sitting 33% higher. Meanwhile, vegetables, grain, and rapeseed all cost less.
Journalists noted some significant discrepancies in the prices for animal products: Prices for slaughter pigs dwindled by 5.0%, while cattle plunged by 1.5%, and poultry prices tumbled 5.4%. Milk prices shrunk by 1.0%, though egg prices saw a 5.3% increase - however, this growth was seen as weakening.
