summer construction site - Important U-Bahn line closed for construction works
A important U-Bahn line in Frankfurt will be closed for construction starting next week. Affected are the lines U1, U2, U3 and U8, as the Traffic Company Frankfurt (VGF) announced. Between Südbahnhof and the Haltestelle Hügelstraße, no trains will run from 2.00 am on July 15 to 3.00 am on August 5. Restrictions also apply to line U8 between Hügelstraße and Nieder-Eschbach. The reason is track construction work.
Replacement buses will run between Heddernheim and Konstablerwache. From there, the S-Bahn will continue towards Südbahnhof. A transfer to tram lines 15 and 16 is also possible, as the VGF announced. Passengers are therefore advised to plan for some additional travel time.
The affected U-Bahn line is the oldest and at the same time the busiest in Frankfurt, explained the VGF. In addition to the tracks, some points will also be repaired. Signal maintenance work and painting and ceiling repairs at the stations are also planned.
Despite the U2 line closure in Frankfurt am Main for construction, commuters can still utilize replacement buses between Heddernheim and Konstablerwache. This detour continues towards Südbahnhof, offering an alternative transport option. Additionally, a transfer to tram lines 15 and 16 is available, which might add to the travel time but provides an alternative route for passengers during the U2 line disruption in Hesse's Frankfurt.
