Due to construction work at the Kaiserberg interchange, the railroad will close the important Duisburg junction for another two weeks during the summer vacation.

Due to construction work at Autobahn intersection Kaiserberg, the railway in the summer holidays will again block the important junction Duisburg for approximately two weeks. In local transport, many trains in the western Ruhr area will be cancelled entirely from July 22 to August 2 and will be replaced by buses, while ICE long-distance trains will be rerouted extensively. This affects many cities in the Ruhr area. This is the third time that the central railway line in the Ruhr area has been closed for several weeks due to construction work.

The reason for the closure was announced by the railway on a Wednesday. The Autobahn company intends to renew a bridge on the A3 motorway in the direction of the north at the intersection Kaiserberg. However, in the area of the motorways, eight railway tracks run, which trains from Duisburg use to travel on the two central east-west axes through the Ruhr area. While work is being done above the motorway bridge, no trains may pass underneath for safety reasons, the railway emphasized. In addition, the railway intends to renew 6000 meters of track between Mülheim and Essen and sanitize several bridges.

In Duisburg, Oberhausen, Mülheim and Düsseldorf-Airport, almost no long-distance train will stop during the closure. The construction work also affects ICE connections in Düsseldorf main station, Essen and Dortmund. Due to simultaneous construction work on the high-speed railway between Cologne and Frankfurt, the train schedule for long-distance trains in the Ruhr area and beyond will be "partially significant" altered, the railway announced.

  1. The blocked railroad at the Duisburg junction in the Ruhr area, Germany, during summer vacation, is due to construction work at the Freeway interchange Kaiserberg.
  2. Traffic in cities like Duisburg, Oberhausen, Mülheim, and Düsseldorf-Airport will be affected as almost no long-distance trains will stop during the closure.
  3. The ICE long-distance trains will be extensively rerouted due to the construction work in the western Ruhr area, especially in cities like Duisburg, Essen, and Dortmund.
  4. The Kaiserberg freeway interchange in North Rhine-Westphalia is undergoing construction to renew a bridge on the A3 motorway, causing eight railway tracks to be blocked for approximately two weeks.
  5. The central railway line in the Ruhr area is being blocked for several weeks for the third time due to construction work, affecting many cities in the region and resulting in many trains being cancelled or replaced by buses.
