Immediate Deportation of Terror Sympathizers Pushed by Faeser
For those who cheer on Hamas or inspire acts of violence with knives: Foreigners who express hatred and violence online should pack their bags and leave the country after their first offensive post. German Interior Minister Faeser plans to present a tightening of expulsion laws to the cabinet tomorrow.
In the future, foreigners in Germany who support terrorist activities will face swift expulsion. "Anyone without a German passport who promotes terrorist acts here, they must - if possible - be expelled and deported," German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser told the Funke Media Group newspapers. Faeser proposes amending the expulsion laws, which will be discussed in the cabinet on Wednesday. A single post glorifying a terrorist act on social media will be enough to trigger expulsion.
The German government's response comes after hateful postings on the internet following the Hamas attack on Israel or the lethal knife attack on a police officer in Mannheim. "The barbaric terrorist attacks of Hamas on Israel were also celebrated in sickening ways on social media in Germany," said Faeser. "The horrific Islamic knife attack in Mannheim, where the young police officer Rouven Laur was killed, was also celebrated by some online."
Chancellor Olaf Scholz had announced legislative changes following the knife attack in Mannheim in a government statement. Faeser now said that after the cabinet decision, the coalition factions should "immediately" also discuss the changes in the Bundestag.
New Category: "Rewarding and Glorifying Criminal Acts"
"The glorification of terrorist criminal acts should result in a significant expulsion interest in the future," reports claim from government circles. This will make it easier for authorities to expel and deport those who glorify terrorist criminal acts. "In the view of the German government, German security interests outweigh the residence interests of the perpetrators," the Funke newspapers reported, citing government sources.
In the future, "a single comment that glorifies a terrorist act on social media and approves of it can justify a significant expulsion interest," it was stated. Faeser intends to create a new category for particularly significant expulsion interests if someone has been involved in "Rewarding and Glorifying Criminal Acts." A criminal conviction for this is not yet necessary, according to plans.
"We are taking a tough stance against Islamic and antisemitic hate crimes on the net," said Faeser. The Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) has deleted over 10,700 hateful postings since the Hamas attack on Israel in October 2023 "to put an end to these new waves of hate."
