Conflict in the Middle Eastern region. - IDF rescuers save four captives from the Gaza Strip.
Israeli commandos have successfully rescued four hostages held in the midst of Gaza Strip, as stated by the military. The four hostages were kidnapped from the Nova Music Festival on October 7th and were reportedly liberated during two operations in the Nuseirat refugee camp. They consist of a 25-year-old woman and three men aged 21, 27, and 40.
Inevitably, this rescue operation resulted in at least 94 deaths and over 200 injuries, as per the Palestinian head of Al-Aksa Hospital. The death toll has not yet been confirmed. The Israeli military is currently in the process of verifying these figures.
A Cup of Tragedy
The Hamas-controlled media office characterizes the military raid on Nuseirat refugee camp as a "shocking, fierce attack". Numerous reports suggest that hospitals in the area suffered devastating air strikes and artillery fire. Photos purported to be from the Al-Aksa Hospital illustrate a scene laden with shedding victims, corpses, and injured children. Additionally, accounts of chaos in the Al-Aksa Clinic in Deir al-Balah are also surfacing.
Moments after the hostages' rescue, military spokesman Daniel Hagari confirmed their well-being, saying, "They are alive. They are doing well." The four individuals will undergo medical evaluations and later reunite with their families in the hospital.
Thrilling Operation
The Israeli special forces are said to have carried out the rescue of the hostages from two separate locations in the Gaza Strip, according to Hagari. Months of meticulous planning and intense training paved the way for this "thrilling operation" by these troops. During the mission, they were subject to incessant gunfire.
A senior Israeli official, confirmed dead, was reportedly a casualty of this operation in Nuseirat.
Hamas: "Ruthless Massacre"
Ismail Haniya, the foreign affairs chief of Hamas, considered Israel's latest operations in Gaza a "brutal massacre" against the Palestinians. Speaking on Saturday, he stated, "The enemy is continuing its brutal massacre against our people, our children, and women, in Nuseirat and Deir al-Balah." He labeled Israel as a "strategic failure", unclear whether he was alluding directly to the news about the liberation of the four hostages from Hamas captivity.
A Long-Awaited Embrace
The 25-year-old freed woman has tugged at Israel's collective heartstrings due to her mother's long-term cancer. The woman's heartfelt pleas for her mother to see her one last time prior to death are now fulfilled. Media sources indicate the rescue took place on her father's birthday.
Freed Hostage Communicates with Netanyahu
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu supposedly held a phone conversation with the 25-year-old. The woman reportedly expressed her happiness at being able to converse in Hebrew once more, according to his office. Meanwhile, another abducted friend, still in the hands of Hamas, is reported by the hostage families' forum.
An Expression of Joy Amidst Magical Atmosphere
A 27-year-old man who was released on Saturday was said to have penned a message through his girlfriend on October 7, claiming that terrorists had him surrounded, firing rockets at him and others. It is believed that he had emigrated to Israel around 18 months ago.
Echoes of Jubilation by the Sea
An eyewitness at an Israeli beach recounted loud cheers and applause after a lifeguard announced the rescue operation.
This "heroic" operation garnered praise from Israel's Defense Minister Yoav Galant, who stated, "We're thrilled to have you back home."
Israel's State President Isaac Herzog also extended his gratitude to the Israeli rescue forces for the "impressive and courageous rescue". Herzog also shared a recording of his phone conversation with the 25-year-old woman, during which she expressed her extreme happiness to be present.
Benny Gantz, a member of Israel's War Cabinet, reportedly uttered he was "overwhelmed" following the hostages' release. Additionally, he withdrew his planned evening speech about his party's departure from the Israeli government.
An Ongoing Toll
Following the horrendous attacks by Hamas and other radical Palestinian organizations near Israel's border with the Gaza Strip on October 7, over 1,200 people were killed. Authorities in Gaza have reportedly identified 36,801 casualties and another 83,680 people who sustained injuries. These statistics do not draw a line between combatants and civilians and thus cannot be independently verified. Israel has been met with fierce international condemnation for their actions in the Gaza Strip.
Currently, approximately 120 hostages of the programmed 251 individuals seized from Israel remain in the Gaza Strip. There is concern that the greater part of these individuals may no longer be alive.
