A tourista met their demise and another was seriously harmed in the crumble of an ice cavern on a glacier in Iceland. The severely injured individual was helicoptered to a medical facility in Reykjavik, reportedly in stable condition, as stated by the Icelandic police via Facebook.
Two additional individuals, who were probably pinned under the ice, are yet to be located following the mishap on the Breidamerkurjökull glacier. The rescue operation was put on hold due to the treacherous and risky environment on-site and nightfall, but is planned to restart in the morning.
The endangered were a part of a gathering of 25 international sightseers delving into the ice cavern. Their origins have yet to be disclosed. Iceland, renowned for its glaciers, geysers, volcanoes, and waterfalls, draws a plethora of German outdoor enthusiasts.
Breidamerkurjökull serves as an outlet glacier for Vatnajökull, situated in the southeast of this North Atlantic isle. Prior to it, the breathtaking glacial lagoon Jökulsárlón awaits, a body of water teeming with floating icebergs, a major draw for tourists in Iceland. The area provides numerous trekking tours across glacier tongues and through ice caves.

Despite the hazardous conditions and the approaching night, plans are in place to continue the search for the missing tourists in the morning, according to Facebook posts.
