Ibu volcano experiences another explosion.
To the east of Indonesia, the Ibu volcano has exploded once more. The Indonesian Geology Agency reported on three separate eruptions on Thursday. The volcano on Halmahera island produced a massive ash cloud soaring five kilometers high, accompanied by lightning and lava spilling out from the center of the volcano.
The agency advised individuals, both residents and tourists, to take precautions by wearing eye protection and respirators and to be mindful of the four to seven kilometer exclusion zone surrounding the crater.
The Ibu is a well-known volcano in Indonesia, as it has experienced multiple eruptions in recent times. This has led to the evacuation of over a dozen nearby villages. No new evacuations were ordered on this occasion, but the highest alert level of 4 was retained. Halmahera Island is home to approximately 700,000 people.
Situated in the Pacific Ring of Fire, Indonesia harbors over 17,000 islands. This region is characterized by the collision of various tectonic plates, resulting in frequent earthquakes and volcanic activity.
