Tragic occurrence amidst stormy weather - Hunt for Misplaced Vessel in the Waters Around Sicily
After the capsizing of a high-end sailboat off the Sicilian coast, efforts are being made to locate the six individuals who went missing. Divers from Italy's mainland have been on the hunt since sunrise, including British tech tycoon Mike Lynch, as reported by Sicilian Civil Protection. The divers concluded their initial examination of the wreckage on the ocean floor without finding anything by Monday night's end.
The 50-meter long yacht, named "Bayesian," encountered trouble early Monday morning during a severe storm with strong winds close to Porticello's northern Sicilian port. A total of 22 people were on board, as per the coast guard. 15 of them were successfully saved and brought ashore. At first, seven individuals were reported missing, but later, a body was recovered from the water.
The search operation is challenging
The rescue operation is proving to be a tough task, as per the fire department. The wreck of the "Bayesian" rests at a depth of 49 meters on the ocean floor. It is assumed that the missing individuals are still trapped inside the shipwreck. During their initial examination, the divers only managed to explore the bridge. Access to the yacht's inner areas was reportedly obstructed.
The six missing individuals include four British citizens and two American ones, according to official records. Italian media consistently reports that aside from Mike Lynch, who is often referred to as the "British Bill Gates" in his country's tabloids, his 18-year-old daughter is also among the missing. Lynch's wife was rescued and is currently receiving treatment in a hospital.
The emergency services are working under severe time constraints due to the sunken vessel's depth and the worsening weather conditions. The six missing individuals' families are in a state of emergency, anxiously awaiting updates on their loved ones.
