Hungary's leader, Orban, seeks EU finance for border infrastructure projects

Hungary's leader, Prime Minister Viktor Orban, insists that the EU needs to shell out for Hungary's border security expenses. "We deserve reimbursement for the steep price tag of our border surveillance," Orban stated on radio. "They'll cough up, it's just a matter of when," he continued. The discussion of whether the EU should fund border barriers from its budget or if it's a national issue has been circling for quite some time. Hungary has been bolstering its border infrastructure in the southeast for years now. Orban has been advocating for EU financial support for these costs for a while now. Similar to Hungary, other EU nations like Poland and those in the Baltics have erected fences along their eastern borders, including to mitigate the influx of migrants from Russia and Belarus.

Hungary's prime minister, Viktor Orban, has been strengthening the country's border infrastructure in the southeast for several years, a move that aligns with the actions of other EU nations like Poland and the Baltics. The EU's consideration of funding Hungary's significant border security expenses, as advocated by Orban, is a topic of ongoing debate within the union.
