Orban: Hungary supports Rutte as Nato Secretary General
Hungary opposes the candidacy of outgoing Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte for the position of NATO Secretary-General. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban declared in the online service X: "Hungary is ready to support Rutte's application as NATO Secretary-General."
In return, Rutte made promises to Orban, as the latter announced: The Dutchman reportedly assured Hungary that it would not have to provide military or financial aid to Ukraine within the NATO framework. This exceptional arrangement had already been negotiated by Orban during a visit from NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg in Budapest the previous week.
"Rutte confirmed that he fully and completely supports this agreement and will continue to do so if he becomes the next NATO Secretary-General," Orban emphasized now.
