Hundreds of fires raging in the western United States - One dead in Colorado
The fire has already destroyed 630 hectares of land and several houses, according to reports. Despite over 120 firefighters on the scene, the flames have not been brought under control yet.
However, the "Stone Canyon Fire" is far from the largest currently burning in the western USA. Especially in the states of California, Oregon, and Washington, dozens of massive fires have broken out, finding easy fuel due to vegetation dried out by heatwaves.
In California, for instance, the "Park Fire" has already destroyed over 150,000 hectares of land - an area larger than the city of Los Angeles. It is now the fifth-largest fire in the state's history. Reinforcements have come from as far away as Texas, but they've only managed to contain a fraction of the flames.
Thousands of people have been evacuated from the region affected by the "Park Fire", around 160 kilometers north of California's capital, Sacramento. Massive smoke clouds have also reached neighboring states.
The fire is believed to have been caused by a man who pushed a burning car into a ravine. The suspect has been charged, according to the district attorney.
While the past few days have seen a slight temperature drop making it easier to fight the flames in some areas, weather services are already warning of a new heatwave expected to hit the western USA from Thursday.
The west, specifically California, is currently grappling with numerous massive fires, with the "Park Fire" being one of the largest. This fire in California has already destroyed an area larger than Los Angeles and is now the fifth-larghfire in the state's history.
Despite the ongoing efforts of firefighters and reinforcements from other states, several large fires, including the "Stone Canyon Fire" in the western USA, continue to pose significant challenges.
