Soccer - Hummels leaves Baller League after just one season
Former football national player Mats Hummels is leaving the Baller League, which he and Lukas Podolski founded, after one season. Hummels, who is currently without a club after his contract ended at Borussia Dortmund, was President of the Small Field Hall League. In it, a mix of former professionals and amateur players, cared for by active and former professionals, streamers, and internet stars, face off in twelve teams. The games are broadcasted online.
"From the beginning, it was clear that, in my role as President, it's mainly about building work for me. The league is now established and standing on its own feet. That's why I will now focus on other projects and clear the way for new faces that will enrich the league," Hummels, like Podolski, World Champion of Rio 2014, said.
The organizer's figures indicate that each match day reached approximately three million live views on Twitch and over 450,000 live viewers in the stream. The new season starts on July 15.
