Households in Germany were without electricity for around twelve minutes on average in 2022
The authority's statistics record all interruptions to the electricity supply lasting three minutes or longer and calculate an average value per connected end consumer. The data is provided by the grid operators. The classic cause of grid disruptions is storms. Other causes include accidents or damage to lines due to construction work.
For 2022, 855 grid operators submitted a total of almost 158,000 supply interruptions. That is almost 9,000 fewer reports than in the previous year. Power outages caused by force majeure, such as earthquakes or particularly severe flooding, are not included in the statistics.
The constant aim for the authority is to maintain a consistent quality level in electricity supply, ensuring minimal interruptions for households in Germany. Even with an average range of twelve minutes without electricity in 2022, efforts continue to decrease such disruptions further. The reduction in supply interruptions reported by 855 grid operators in 2022 compared to the previous year signifies significant improvements in electricity reliability.
