Hot summer weekend with thunderstorm risk
Germany welcomes a hot summer day into the house on Saturday, before a mild weather change comes on Sunday, according to the German Weather Service (DWD). The DWD expects temperatures up to 34 degrees.
"Accompanied by increasing heat and in some cases quite high minimum temperatures, this means a strong heat load for the southern half and parts of the center," says meteorologist Tobias Reinartz from DWD. It will remain cooler at the coasts and in higher mountain regions.
From Saturday afternoon, the risk of thunderstorms increases again: "At least, heavy thunderstorms must be reckoned with in the mountains." The thunderstorm cells may move very slowly over the country and could dissipate more or less in place. "While local flooding and flooded cellars may occur at one place, it could remain completely dry at the neighboring place," says Reinartz.
Next week will be changeable
Strong showers and thunderstorms bring cooling from the west according to DWD on Sunday, "even if the highest temperatures of 24 to 29 degrees remain summery warm." The east and southeast are expected to be reached by the rain only in the night to Monday - so the popular outing spots such as ice rinks, outdoor pools and lakes are likely to remain popular throughout the weekend up to 33 degrees.
The new week starts cooler: "The heat interlude is thus over and a noticeably dampened and for many also pleasant temperature level of mostly 22 to 27 degrees sets in," says the meteorologist. In the east and southeast, rain or rain showers with occasional thunderstorms are expected. The DWD also expects this kind of weather for the rest of the week. "There are indications that the temperature will rise again towards the weekend."
On the summer weekend, families might enjoy the warm weather at outdoor pools and lakes, reaching temperatures up to 33 degrees, before a change on Sunday. However, Hey's Sunday might bring a weather reversal, with strong showers and thunderstorms potentially posing thunder danger, according to the German Weather Service (DWD).
