Athletics - High jumper Potye impresses - But concerns about the foot

German high jumper Tobias Potye emphasized his form for the Olympics with a personal season best performance at the International High Jump Meeting in Heilbronn. The Munich native finished second behind Olympic champion and top favorite Mutaz Essa Barshim (Qatar). Potye cleared 2.29 meters, two centimeters shy of Barshim's mark.

However, Potye's competition ended in disappointment: In his attempt to clear 2.31 meters, he abandoned the competition and hobbled off injured. He was the sole German high jumper to qualify for the Summer Games. For the women, Christina Honsel (Wattenscheid), who finished fifth in Heilbronn with a leap of 1.86 meters, and Imke Onnen (Hannover) competed in Paris.

Despite the injury setback in Heilbronn, Tobias Potye still secured a spot for the Athletics events at the Olympic Games in Olympia. His high jump performance in his home region of Baden-Württemberg at the International High Jump Meeting in Heilbronn was remarkable, even if it didn't result in a gold medal. Prior to this disappointment, Potye had shown exceptional form, setting a new personal best before the Olympic Games.
