Middle East - Hezbollah: More than 200 rockets fired at northern Israel

In response to the assassination of a high-ranking commander, Hezbollah in Lebanon reportedly fired over 200 rockets into Northern Israel, according to their own statements. The Israeli military announced that numerous projectiles and drones had penetrated their airspace. The army did not provide an exact count. In retaliation, they struck launch sites in Lebanon.

Israel's army reported that several of the rockets had been intercepted. In various regions, fires broke out due to falling shrapnel and drones. Sirens were wailing in the Northern part of the country.

The Lebanese news agency NNA reported additionally that during an Israeli attack in Hula in Southern Lebanon, a person was killed. A woman was also reportedly injured in another attack, according to NNA.

According to its own statements, the Israeli military had assassinated a high-ranking Hezbollah commander in Lebanon on Wednesday. Since the beginning of the Gaza War, Israel and the Lebanese Shiite militia Hezbollah have been engaging in near-daily battles. The intensity of the fighting has recently increased significantly on both sides, resulting in casualties. It is feared that the conflict may spread further. Israel demands that Hezbollah withdraws behind the 30 kilometer boundary of the Litani River, as stipulated in a UN resolution. The militia, which is backed by Iran, intends to cease fire only when there is a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
