Hezbollah leader Nasrallah threatens escalation
"All options on the Lebanese front remain open," said Nasrallah in his first public statement on the current situation since the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7. An escalation was a "realistic possibility" and everything depended on how the war in the Gaza Strip would continue.
The radical Islamic Hezbollah militia is supported by Iran and operates from Lebanon against Israel. Nasrallah did not specifically threaten a large-scale attack on Israel. He emphasized that the attack by the radical Islamic Hamas on Israel on 7 October was "100 percent Palestinian". At the same time, however, he blamed the USA for the current situation in the Gaza Strip. What is currently happening there is a "decisive battle". And Israel would not achieve its goals, he said.
The Israeli government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wants to destroy Hamas with the current campaign in the Gaza Strip. According to Israeli figures, around 1,400 people, mostly civilians, were killed in the attack by Hamas fighters four weeks ago and around 240 hostages have been held in the Gaza Strip since then.
In light of the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip, Nasrallah, the Hezbollah chief, highlighted that the situation could escalate further, as he views it as a "realistic possibility." Despite not explicitly mentioning a major attack on Israel, Nasrallah stressed that the recent Hamas action was solely Palestinian and criticized the United States for contributing to the dispute's intensity.
