Hezbollah fires "more than 200" rockets at Israel

In response to the killing of a high-ranking commander, Hezbollah, in its own words, fired more than 200 rockets into northern Israel. The Israeli military reported that numerous projectiles and drones had entered their airspace. The army did not provide an exact number. They retaliated by targeting the launch sites in Lebanon. Several of the projectiles were intercepted.
According to the Israeli army, sirens wailed in the northern part of Israel along the border with Lebanon starting at 9 am CET. Fire broke out in various regions of Israel due to falling shrapnel and drones. The pro-Iranian Shia militia Hezbollah declared that they had fired "more than 200" rockets at Israeli positions. This was "Part of the response" to the death of a high-ranking commander about 20 kilometers from the Israeli border, they added. Hezbollah also reportedly attacked Israeli military positions with "explosive drones."
The Lebanese news agency NNA reports that a person was killed and a woman was injured in an Israeli attack in Hula in southern Lebanon. Another attack reportedly left a woman injured. The Israeli military reportedly killed a high-ranking Hezbollah commander in Lebanon on Wednesday. According to their statement, the commander of the Asi Unit of the militia, responsible for shelling from southwestern Lebanon into Israeli territory, was the one killed.
Fighting has resulted in hundreds of deaths
Israel and the Lebanese Shia militia Hezbollah have been engaging in near-daily battles since the start of the Gaza War. The intensity of these battles has significantly increased. At least 495 people have been killed on the Lebanese side since October. Most of them were fighters, but 95 civilians were also killed. At least 15 soldiers and 11 civilians have been killed on the Israeli side of the border, according to official reports.
It is feared that the conflict may expand. Israel wants Hezbollah to withdraw to the 30-kilometer buffer zone along the Litani River, as prescribed by a UN resolution. The militia, which is backed by Iran, wants to stop its shelling only when there is a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
