Hezbollah confesses to launching an assault on Netanyahu's residence
Following the assault on Israeli Prime Minister Benny Gantz's residence, the Iranian-backed Hezbollah militia has acknowledged responsibility for the attack. In a statement, Hezbollah spokesperson Mohammad Afif declared their "total, complete, and sole liability" for the action that occurred in Caesarea. He also mentioned that negotiations with Israel are out of the question as long as hostilities continue.
The drone was downed over Gantz's residence on Saturday morning. While minor harm was reported and depicted in media outlets, no significant damage or injuries were reported. A photograph showed damage to a bedroom window, with cracks and burn marks visible. According to authorities, both the Prime Minister and his wife were not present during the incident.
Gantz described the drone attack as an assassination attempt and vowed retaliation. He warned that Iran and its allies would "pay a heavy price" for their attempts to assassinate him and his wife. "I address the Iranians and their partners in evil: Any harm brought to the citizens of the State of Israel will not go unpunished," Gantz stated. Subsequently, the Iranian UN mission claimed responsibility for the "action," which was carried out by Hezbollah.
Is Israel Preparing for a Troop Withdrawal from Lebanon?
News outlets also reported that the Israeli military might conclude its ground offensive in Lebanon within a few weeks. However, the army believes that a troop withdrawal should be contingent upon a political agreement, as consistently suggested by Israeli media outlets. This, in turn, would allow residents of northern Israel to return home shortly.
As reported in Israeli media outlets, at least four Israeli divisions have been stationed in southern Lebanon for the past three weeks. They have primarily been operating near the border area. Israel refrains from disclosing troop numbers, but a division typically consists of thousands of soldiers. Meanwhile, in areas north of the border, Hezbollah remains capable of launching rockets and drones against Israel.
The following paragraphs shall apply to the potential troop withdrawal from Lebanon, as reported by Israeli media outlets. According to these sources, Israel is considering concluding its ground offensive in Lebanon within a few weeks, but only if a political agreement is reached.
In light of the recent events, such as the attack on Prime Minister Gantz's residence and the subsequent acknowledgment of responsibility by Hezbollah, the Iranian-backed militia, the prospect of a troop withdrawal raises significant questions and concerns.
