generational change - Hennis Herbst new chairperson of The Left in MEV
The Left in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has undergone a generational change at the top. A party conference in Waren at the Müritz elected today the 27-year-old Hennis Herbst from Greifswald as the new state chairman.
Herbst won against three competitors and received 50 out of the 103 cast votes, which corresponds to 48.5%. Herbst had previously been the deputy state chairman of the party for two years and was elected to the Greifswald city parliament in the communal election on June 9.
In his application speech, he appealed to the Left not to give up in the present existential crisis. The Left is needed, he said. We must fight for a livable future, for employment and wage equality, for equality. "We fight for the people who are not born with a golden spoon", he said. The Left opposes the right-wing trend, instead of abandoning the rural areas, and fights for peace.
