The Hanf district in the north Rhine-Westphalia Hennef will likely remain nameless for a longer period of time: At the access road, an official sign currently stands with the inscription "closed settlement - replacement sign". The reason: The coveted Hanf sign is once again stolen. It is predicted that, according to the statements of the Landesbetrieb Straßen.NRW, several more weeks will pass before a new sign is ready.

Therefore, the replacement sign has been put up temporarily. "This is important to indicate that this is a closed settlement where 50 km/h applies," said a spokesperson. A new Hanf sign must definitely be installed. However, for the production of signs, orders are placed in batches. This will still take some time. Previously, the Bonn "General-Anzeiger" reported on this.

15 signs missing between 2021 and 2023

The Hanf signs have been stolen frequently in the past. "This unfortunately happens regularly," said a spokeswoman for the city of Hennef, to which the district belongs. The city is responsible for five of the signs, the Landesbetrieb for three. A total of 15 of the city's signs have been missing since 2021. "A flex sign is also used sometimes." The damage is significant: A sign costs around 120 Euros, plus labor hours.

The city then installed five new signs in June. These signs have been made theft-proof by welding the metal signs to the frame, said the spokeswoman. And indeed: "All these signs are still in place to this day."
