Heavy rain causes flooding in the Czech Republic

Heavy rain showers in the eastern part of the Czech Republic led to local flooding. The fire departments were called out to more than 300 interventions in the Zlin administrative region. The emergency services pumped water out of basements and ground floors and cleared overturned trees from the roads. Zlin is located about 250 kilometers southeast of Prague.

In the particularly affected community of Sazovice, the water reached up to one meter high in the streets. Dozens of people had to be evacuated from their homes and taken to a shelter. In the village of Rackova, the water entered more than 40 buildings, including the town hall and the school. In many places, small streams turned into raging rivers. The damages are estimated to be in the millions of Euros according to initial assessments.

After the flooding, heavy cleanup work began in Sazovice, with teams working to clear debris and restore affected buildings. The heavy rain also caused significant flooding in Rackova, where cleanup efforts are also underway to repair damaged buildings and infrastructure.
