Unfalle - Heavily injured man flees into the forest after car accident
A heavily injured man ran away on foot from the police after a car accident involving two trailers near Offenburg. The 41-year-old man took advantage of the chaos on the A5 autobahn to escape into the adjacent forest, according to the police. At the accident scene, police had previously measured an alcohol level of approximately 0.7 promille in his breath.
Approximately 40 minutes later, police found the man again. He had to give a blood sample and surrender his driver's license. The 41-year-old and his seriously injured passenger were taken to the hospital.
The driver had noticed the lane change of a small trailer too late from the middle to the left lane - presumably because he had been driving at very high speed. He had attempted to drive between the trailer and another one, but the gap was too small, and his car collided with both vehicles instead. The car began to burn. Police were able to extinguish the fire quickly with fire extinguishers.
The car accident occurred in the vicinity of Offenburg, located in the German state of Baden-Württemberg. The police were called to manage the traffic disruption caused by the accident. Despite the injuries, the driver attempted to flee the scene, but was later caught and subjected to further tests. The accident resulted in significant damage to both trailers and the driver's car, causing an automatic activation of the fire extinguishers.
