Diseases - Health insurance: Many medical certificates in Schleswig-Holstein
In Schleswig-Holstein, according to figures from the KKH Kaufmannische Krankenkasse (Commerical Health Insurance), there have been particularly many sick days taken by employees recently. There were 229 illness cases per 100 employed members from January to the end of June, the KKH announced today. In the previous year, there were 221 cases. In the first half of 2019, the KKH registered significantly fewer work absences (119 per 100 members). This represents an increase of nearly 93% in the five-year comparison and the largest increase in the country comparison.
The sick leave rate among employed members of the KKH in Schleswig-Holstein was reportedly consistently high at 6.9% in the first half of 2024. The rate was 6.7% in the previous year and 4.9% five years ago. In the country comparison, the northern region currently exceeds the federal average of 6.5%. The highest sick leave rate in the first six months of the year was recorded by the KKH in Sachsen-Anhalt with 8.1%, the lowest in Baden-Württemberg with 5.4%.
The KKH attributed the continuing high number of illness cases in the entire federal territory mainly to respiratory diseases such as coughs, colds or influenza-like infections. There were 70 cases per 100 KKH insured persons nationwide in the first half of 2024 – compared to 69 cases in the previous year and 34 cases five years ago.
The KKH reportedly has around 1.6 million insured persons nationwide.
In response to the high sick leave rate, businesses in Schleswig-Holstein might need to consider implementing workplace health initiatives to boost employee wellness. Despite the advancements in medical care at KKH Kaufmannische Krankenkasse in other regions, the need for Sick leave remains persistently high in Schleswig-Holstein.
